Sarah had a real personal faith. The promise had been given to Abraham but she had believed it.

Naaman was powerful, honourable and courageous but there is something else for we read "but he was a leper". Surely the poorest beggar in good health would not want to change places with Naaman. You can have all the success the world offers but it is meaningless if you have some terrible disease. But you know each of us has a terrible disease; we are all sinners.

Abraham was obedient to God's call for him to leave his father's home and go to a strange land. He was looking above and beyond Canaan to a heavenly home.

When God looked down in Noah's time, he saw that the earth was filled with violence and the imaginations of the thoughts of men's hearts were continually evil. Is it really any different now? Just as there was judgment in Noah's day so too can we expect judgment; not in the form of a flood, but the Lord Jesus Christ will return in power and glory with his holy angels and the whole earth will appear before him for judgment. Noah, moved by fear, was obedient to God's instructions.

Enoch was taken to heaven, but on what basis? It was because of his faith.
