Jesus pointed out a simple truth: when someone is performing miracles in his name, then that is evidence that he belongs to him. We know nothing about that man, except that he was casting out devils in Jesus' name. He would not have been doing this if he was in league with the devil. There is no suggestion that he was like Simon the sorcerer in Acts 8 who tried to buy the power.

The Lord's ways are higher than our ways. The walls of Jericho stood in the way. They were brought down, but not our way. It is good to pray, but stop giving God pointers on how to answer. He is so longsuffering with us. We need bold faith.

This letter is designed to encourage you to press on upwards in faith. At first the Egyptians were glad to see the Israelites go, but that was short lived. Soon the Egyptian army was in hot pursuit. Their hearts were hardened by God. The Israelites found themselves trapped. That is a scary prospect. This is a real test of faith. Would you have kept calm? What actually followed was panic, fear and murmuring. But the Lord has promised, "I will be with thee". This is the promise of God to those who are trusting in Jesus. Are you safe in the hand of Jesus?
