When you pray to the infinitely wise God, how often do you kindly give him the answer which you desire? You are not speaking to, but at God. You are shocked when you don't get what you want, for your thoughts are all tainted by sin. In prayer you should fall on your knees in total dependency.

You could have chosen to do many things, but you are here this morning. Why have you come?

Judgement had come in the world wide flood and now Noah was floating in the ark with his family. But, they had not not been abandoned for God remembered Noah.

Jesus was going to Jerusalem to die in the place of sinners, to make an atonement. His disciples did not grasp the nature of what he had come to do. They expected he would be crowned king. Jesus corrected their false expectations.

"Even the death of the cross". As all of you well know the most widely used symbol of christiandom today is the cross. But you know interestingly there is nothing at all in the Bible to suggest that the cross should be regarded as the symbol of Christianity. Where has all this come from? Not the scriptures, not the apostolic era, or the early church, but the emperor Constantine who is supposed to have seen a light in the sky in the sign of a cross. It goes back to this man whose life was rooted in paganism. I want o say to you that it is not the wood that matters, but him who suffered upon the accursed tree to make atonement for sin.
