But for God's grace, you could be the perpetrator of some of these terrible things happening in our world. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Contrast your wickedness with the love, mercy and grace of God.

Jesus was obedient to the laws demands even unto the death of the cross. We are going to consider the law as it relates to christians. There is confusion within the church about the law. First of all, salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. There are many religious people in this world who try to justify themselves by keeping the law. Many, especially in our western world, who would claim to have no religious belief at all but who say I live a good life. This too is self justification. If there is a God I am good enough to get to heaven.

The characteristics of the Christian are seen in the effects. Christian, you are the salt of the earth. Salt preserves and it slows down the rotting process. Surely there can be no greater incentive for heart purity than the prospect of seeing God. There is a sense in which we can see something of God now. The heavens declare the glory of God. But rebellious man will insist that there is no God, that everything came from a big bang. Now, Paul says that the wrath of God is revealed from heaven. The invisible attributes of God are clearly seen. You have no excuse for your insistance that there is no God.

Passage: Matthew 5:7
Duration: 35 mins 5 secs
Jesus describes you, Christian friend, as blessed are the merciful and as receiving mercy. The Greek word translated here as merciful is only found here and in Hebrews 2:17, where Christ is described as "a merciful and faithful high priest". In the context this means actively compassionate. In all his life, he was merciful to outcasts. To some degree if you belong to Jesus, you should show something of his compassion.

As we continue to look at these blessings, we come to Mat 5:5 and look at meekness. Many think meekness means weakness. Well, if that is your understanding, it is not what the Lord Jesus Christ meant. Let me remind you that he described himself as meek and lowly in heart, but he was never weak.
