Many Christians have been taught to look for a rebuilt temple, renewed sacrifices, an earthly Jerusalem and a future Jewish kingdom. But is that where the New Testament directs our attention?
In this Bible study we consider the remarkable truth that believers have already entered into the heavenly realities that find their fulfillment in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Drawing from Colossians, Ephesians, Hebrews, John's Gospel and other New Testament passages, we explore how the Scriptures present Christ as the true Temple, the perfect Sacrifice, the exalted King, and the fulfillment of God's promises. We also consider what it means for Christians to have already come to the heavenly Jerusalem and to belong to God's unshakable kingdom.
This study is intended to encourage believers to read the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament and to rejoice in the spiritual blessings that are already ours through union with Christ.
Bible passages considered include:
• Colossians 1:13
• Ephesians 2:6, 14–22
• Hebrews 11:10, 16
• Hebrews 12:22–24
• John 2:19–21
• John 4:21–24
