Our Sunday School

An introduction by Renee Else

Renee Else with Sunday school superintendent Ray Richardson Jesus said “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

When Jesus was here on earth He spent much time with the children, and when mothers brought them to Him He blessed them.

Indeed, He rebuked the disciples when they tried to turn the mothers away. The soul of a child is as precious in the eyes of Christ as that of an adult.

Parents sometimes say that they won’t encourage their children to come to Sunday School.

They say they would rather let them make up their own minds about religion when they are older. But how can children make choices when they haven’t heard the options?

At Grace Baptist Church, we want every child to have the chance to hear what the Bible has to say about the life and work of the Lord Jesus. We want them to know that Jesus died on the cross for children as well as adults. There are many enticements in these days for young people.

John Bunyan in prison for the gospel's sakeLife in the twenty-first century is lived in the ‘fast lane’ and there is a great temptation to follow the crowd and bow to peer pressure. Children need a personal knowledge of the love of Jesus to give them a framework to build their lives on.

In Sunday School, we aim to teach them about the love of God the Father, who sent His Son to die on the cross for sinful men and women, boys and girls.

Many people in old age find it difficult to remember what happened last week, but they quite clearly recall events from their childhood. They can quote songs, stories and Scripture verses that they learnt at Sunday School.

Even if children attend Sunday School for just a few years, they learn valuable lessons that will remain with them into old age. All of those connected with our Sunday School appreciate the importance of these things through personal experience.
