Friends of GBM group on Facebook

[09-03-2008] Following a run of special meetings to raise awareness of GBM Missionary work, we have created a "Friends Of" group on social networking website Facebook.

This has been particularly useful in raising awareness of the situation in Kenya where a GBM missionary couple are based in Kisumu.

Facebook.com has been very popular with Christians and non-Christians alike for the past year, in the UK and beyond.It brings people together via the internet and is proving a great way to share information and encourage people by communication.

Why did GBCP get involved?

GBCP had a series of special GBM-related meetings in 2007 and there was a burden to remember the work of the mission from that time. The webmaster ran the idea of a group past a present GBM Missionary, Maria Amoako, and it was felt that with Facebook's mushrooming popularity it would be a great way to connect often-isolated overseas missionaries with friends and other workers around the world:

• The group has now grown to 97 members including a number of brethren currently in the mission field.
• Having been created it takes very little maintenance as the members of the group post their own updates and material.
• The group includes pictures of the mission-tied churches around the world, urgent prayer requests from the workers and a message board for everyone to connect with each other.
• Anyone can join in.
