Grace Baptist Church Peel supports the work of Christian mission both corporately and individually. As a collective we have a relationship with the Grace Baptist Mission (GBM UK). At a more personal level we have particular connections with one or two past and present missonaries within GBM.
Some of the members have had the opportunity of going out to places that constitute the mission field for GBM workers. One example is Maria Amoako based in Cuenca, Spain.
Maria sends us her prayer/news letters so we can keep up to date and pray more intelligently for her work. The church she is working in conjunction with is supported by the EMF (European Missionary Fellowship) whose literature GBCP has on display.
We could not mention our missionary ties without giving a special mention to Yvonne Langton (nee Conacher). This Australian lady laboured in the mission field of Tamil Nadu in India for 4 decades before retiring, marrying and returning to her homeland.
We got to know Yvonne over many visits to Chennai (formerly Madras) on charity business. She even gave us welcome hospitality on a few occasions in the swelterig heat!
She integrated into the Indian community, learnt the language well and translated much Christian literature into the Tamil language. Pray for Yvonne as she hopes to keep this up in Australia whilst serving the Lord with her husband Cliff in the Berean Bible Church in Queensland.
For several weeks now we have been giving special attention to the history of the GBM and the work of a number of individual missionaries past and present. This took place during our mid-week meetings and those present felt challenged by what was being achieved around the world, and much better informed about the work of the GBM.
Through the presentation of prepared mini-lectures, video screenings and Powerpoint presentations we have had a truly multimedia experience of the former Strict Baptist Mission (GBM). These special meetings have now drawn to a conclusion. Features included...
