Children's Work at Grace Baptist Church Peel

"Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings Thou hast perfected praise." These are the words spoken by the Lord Jesus when he admonished the chief priests and scribes for criticising the children praising Him. While we hope that no-one in today's church would hold back children from praise, it is possible to be guilty of not placing enough emphasis on their spiritual needs.

The kids in our pictures are now grown up and a number still have contact with the church today.

If you follow the links (above left) you can home in on each of our 3 main regular children's ministries. As the Spirit guides and directs, GBCP has undertaken different types of outreach to children over the years. From meetings in Laxey to youth club style activities the church has been able to make a connection with different age groups at different times.

Gauging it just right

We are mindful of the fact that there is a temptation to "dumb down" bible teaching when it is for children. In some quarters this means avoiding certain teachings and over-simplifying others. We try to avoid these pitfalls whilst at the same time being sensitive and pitching it at their level. The Lord Jesus was a master at communicating profound and deep truths with simple language and the aid of parables. In our work we try to:

  • Engage boys and girls with both modern and traditional sound and reverent songs and hymns
  • Engender confidence in the community by always having male and female helpers present.
  • Have a good helper:child ratio so that there is always time for one-to-one assistance
  • Encourage parents of the kids to stay if they want to and find out what their kids are learning
  • Use a variety of activities to aid their attention span and make it a joy to learn about the Lord.
